Ellen’s story from 9/12/2017 after Hurricane Harvey:
“Another pitbull in a city overwhelmed with pitbulls. In a city overwhelmed by flooding & loss. She might as well be invisible.

Except how can you not see a dog- a life which feels pain, sorrow, fear, love, happiness- being dragged on her stomach by a piece of rope around her neck as someone holds the other end from a moving car’s window?
How could you not see Ellen? Thank God a good samaritan did, stepped in front of the car, took her from them and called us. Ellen suffered a terrifying and brutal abuse, an abuse on a scale most of us will thankfully never know. (And this is only one incident we actually know about. She also has a head wound so we wouldn’t doubt she has lived through much more misery and suffering.) Her body experienced torture, but it didn’t even put a scratch on her heart and spirit. Ellen is incredibly loving and gentle. And so grateful to be rescued. When we went and picked her up from her guardian angel’s home, she was sleeping so deeply after having a meal and knowing she was safe, a volunteer had to carry her to the car.

Ellen needs a loving home that she can call her own. Everyone who meets her loves her. And it’s reciprocated. Make a difference. Give Ellen what she has never, ever had. Love. Care. Comfort. Safety. A soft bed and a squeaky toy. Regular, nutritious food. A bowl of clean water. A gentle hand scratching behind her ears. Be the change for Ellen.”

Update:
Ellen is now happy and healthy! She is searching for her home as the only animal to get all the love and attention she deserves. She has just completed her heartworm treatment and every single vet staff member loves her to death. Ellen is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
